Creativity, Reimagined for Adults
Anahvia is an elevated creative and social destination in Houston built around what happens when we give our attention somewhere worth giving it. We are challenging the idea that creativity belongs to childhood, requires artistic talent, or has to look a certain way. Here, creativity becomes part of a night out, a celebration, an afternoon to yourself, or simply a reason to do something different.
At Anahvia, the experience changes. Floral design engages you differently than working with texture. Handbag making brings its own energy, and seasonal concepts introduce something entirely new. Each experience has its own sensory quality, atmosphere, and rhythm, and we will continue introducing things we haven’t created yet.
What remains constant is the opportunity to put down the distractions, engage your hands and imagination, and become absorbed in what’s happening right in front of you.

OUR STORY
The Flowers Were Only the Beginning
Anahvia began as Blossom Bar Houston, a space centered around floral design. People came to learn how to arrange flowers, but over time, we started paying attention to everything else happening around the table.
What we saw was engagement. People became immersed in what they were doing while connecting naturally with the people around them. By the end of a workshop, the energy in the room was different. Guests left smiling, hugging, proud of what they had created, and often telling us how much they needed the experience. Some described feeling recharged and ready to take on the week ahead.
As the experiences expanded beyond flowers into handbag making, textured art, and other forms of creativity, something became increasingly clear:
The medium could change without changing the reason the experience mattered.
We had outgrown a name built around flowers because we had discovered what we were actually building.
That evolution became Anahvia.

THE MEANING OF ANAHVIA
ANAHVIA
uh-NAH-vee-uh
noun
1. A state of undivided presence in which a person is fully engaged with what they are doing, who they are with, or what they are creating, temporarily free from the distractions and demands that ordinarily compete for their attention.
2. A space or experience that invites this state of presence by creating room to step outside of routine, engage the senses and imagination, and reconnect with oneself, others, or the act of creating.
Anahvia is an invented word because what we were becoming needed language of its own. It describes a state that isn’t confined to our space or even to creativity itself. It can happen anywhere your attention becomes so fully engaged that, for a moment, you are no longer dividing yourself between where you are and everything else demanding you.
We simply built a place designed to make more room for it.
MEET THE FOUNDER
Meet Karla Trice
Long before Anahvia had a name, Karla Trice was already living much of the philosophy behind it.
A Bronx, New York native and licensed funeral director, Karla built a career that routinely placed her alongside people experiencing some of life’s heaviest moments. Her professional life required presence, composure, and the ability to care for people when circumstances were difficult.
Creativity became one of the ways she cared for herself.
She painted. She worked with flowers. She explored new ways of making things simply because she genuinely enjoyed it. Creating gave her somewhere productive to place her attention after carrying the weight of a demanding day. It became a way to decompress, recover, and return to herself.
Years later, that same philosophy would show up inside Blossom Bar Houston without her deliberately setting out to build a business around it.
As the concept began growing, her oldest brother gave her a piece of advice that stayed with her:
“Small things become big things.”
His point was simple. She was enjoying what she was building, and other people were enjoying it too. It did not have to begin as her biggest dream to deserve the opportunity to become something.
So she kept going.
The flowers became workshops. The workshops became new mediums. The creative experiments became an organization. Eventually, the thing that had grown beyond its original name needed one that could grow with it.
Anahvia is the result.
OUR MISSION
Using Creativity as a Therapeutic Vessel
Anahvia operates through Blossom Bar Houston, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The nonprofit mission grew from something we had already observed and experienced firsthand: creating can give our attention a place to land.
It can ask us to concentrate without staring at another screen. It can challenge us without requiring perfection. It can create room for interaction without forcing it and give someone the satisfaction of looking at something that did not exist before they made it.
When we say “Using Creativity as a Therapeutic Vessel,” we use those words intentionally. Anahvia is not a clinical practice, and our workshops are not art therapy. We are interested in the everyday human value of making, concentrating, expressing, and spending time with other people while doing something tangible.
Our nonprofit work allows that philosophy to extend beyond the people who already know how to find us.
WHY CREATIVITY MATTERS
When Was the Last Time You Were Fully Present?
We spend much of our lives moving between work and home, with a phone rarely far from reach. Even when we think we’re resting, we’re often scrolling, responding, consuming, or thinking about what needs to happen next. Somewhere along the way, many adults also lose touch with something that once came naturally: creating simply because we enjoyed it.
Anahvia creates an interruption in that cycle.
Working with your hands gives your attention somewhere else to go. Not because someone told you to put your phone away, but because you become genuinely interested in what you’re doing. You look up and realize you haven’t checked it. You become absorbed in the process. For a while, you’re simply there.
Creating alongside other people adds another dimension. Conversation develops naturally around a shared experience. You exchange ideas, notice what someone else is making, ask questions, laugh, help one another, and sometimes meet someone you might never have spoken to otherwise. Even quiet moments feel comfortable because everyone is engaged in something together.
There is room to socialize and room to become completely absorbed in your own work. Both can exist at the same table.
It’s about creating and being present. That’s why creativity matters to us.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Who Gets to Experience Anahvia Should Keep Expanding
Our physical space is one expression of the mission. It is not the boundary of it.
As a nonprofit organization, we are developing ways to bring thoughtfully designed creative programming to people and communities who may not otherwise encounter experiences like these.
That includes programming created with older adults and seniors in mind, collaborations with community organizations, educational programming, and partnerships that allow us to bring creative experiences into spaces beyond our own.
We are also interested in the people who are often overlooked when creative programming is designed. The adult who stopped thinking of themselves as creative years ago. The older adult whose opportunities to try something new have become fewer. The person whose days revolve around caring for everyone else. The communities that deserve access to thoughtfully designed opportunities for enjoyment, engagement, and human interaction.
Our community work will continue to grow alongside Anahvia. As it does, we will share that story through the programs created, people reached, organizations involved, and outcomes we can actually measure.
PARTNER WITH US
Let’s Build Something That Matters
We welcome partnerships with organizations interested in using creativity in thoughtful and unexpected ways.
That may mean developing programming for a senior community, collaborating with a nonprofit, bringing an experience directly to the people an organization serves, creating an educational initiative, sponsoring access to programming, or developing something neither organization has done before.
We welcome conversations with senior communities and organizations serving older adults, community and nonprofit organizations, educational organizations, foundations, philanthropic partners, businesses, and corporations interested in community investment.
If there is alignment between the people you serve and the work we are building, we would like to hear what you have in mind.
